To everyone who has been indoors for the last three months:
If you feel like wearing shorts during the upcoming streaks of warm weather, please be considerate of the general public. If the glare from your pasty, white skin is enough to blind, perhaps you should invest in some fake tanner or a few visits to a tanning salon. This goes for the guys as well as the girls, although for most guys, the hair helps block out some of the glare. If you are female and the hair on your arms and legs is blocking out the glare, perhaps you should consider shaving or waxing as well.
On a completely unrelated note, I've posted a new review for
The International. I'll have a
Watchmen review up over spring break followed by a review of
Milk which I plan to see Sunday.
Snow DayThe snow came overnight, making the landscape look pristine and peaceful. By noon, most of it had melted away. At 6:30, the ground was almost completely white, with small sprigs of grass poking through the new blanket, yet the sidewalks and pavement were without an frozen precipitation. By 9:30, brown patches of soggy ground were peering through the snow even though the snow continued to fall. Now it's just a cold day with very little around to hint at what happened 8 hours earlier. I was really hoping for a snow day tomorrow, but that won't happen. So instead, I'll make today a snow day. With no homework to do and no pressing cleaning chores, I elected to enjoy the day and play some games.
The weekend has been busy, yet entertaining, as I celebrated my birthday a little late thanks to an exam forcing me to study on my actual birthday. I took off from work Friday afternoon after the exam and enjoyed a free rental from Movie Gallery. Severe weather made the afternoon interesting with a tornado warning, and everything was fairly calm around us. That night we went to a gymnastics meet to cheer our team to victory against Auburn.
We arrived a few minutes late and discovered a family of five occupying our row and taking our seats. Not wanting to move their kids, they asked us to sit in some open seats in the row in front of them. Not wanting to play musical chairs all night, I asked them where their seats were. They reported that they were students and were told to sit wherever there was room. I informed them that the student section was one section over. I wasn't rude, yet the guy said, "Fine, be a jerk about it." Ummm, I'm not being a jerk. I just politely pointed out where the student section was. Why should I sit in someone else's seat and have to move again when they show up?
Saturday was the regular shopping day. I stopped by Circuit City and grabbed $140 worth of games (and a DVD) for $60. A stop by Barnes and Nobles required me to spend more money as I saw a Donkey Kong Jenga game and a collectible history of Nintendo Power magazine.
After lunch we headed to Birmingham to see Alabama's last hockey game of the season. Unfortunately, the team lost in the first round of the SEC tournament and ended up playing for 5th place. In a well-played match that got a little feisty, Alabama beat Arkansas 6-3. After the game we went to Baumhauer's Wings for my non home-cooked birthday dinner. Baumhauer's has added a step above 911 on the hotness scale labeled "Volcano". I may have been able to tackle that when I was younger, but I'd prefer my stomach acids not to pour into my body cavity at this age. After dinner we drove back to Tuscaloosa to watch
The International (review forthcoming). All in all, it was a good birthday celebration including all the festivities from Thursday. Hopefully my professor will give me a birthday present with a good grade on the exam, but I'm not incredibly optimistic.
