It's no surprise that everything in New York is more expensive. A typical meal, including breakfast, runs at least $40 before the tip. All the touristy spots try to wring every penny out of your pocket which is really no different than anywhere else. In most cases, the high prices were tolerable, but there were some things that were too expensive. The Cyclone at Coney Island was $8 a ride. $8 to ride a roller coaster for a couple minutes. That's a little too much. Gas in New York was hovering around $4.20, but why anyone would choose to drive instead of hopping on public transportation is a mystery. A primetime movie will cost you $12 which isn't really that big of a mark-up considering the set-up. The theater we visited had an elaborate lobby with facades of old theaters surrounding each entrance. Inside the screening rooms were furnishings reminiscent of the time period. The theater we were in even had a balcony section which seemed to by the preferred seating section. It seemed like an awesome place to see the new Indiana Jones movie. Now that I'm back, my review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is posted.
