I have a confession to make. Last week, I went to see Kelly Clarkson in concert. Now some of you might think that I went just to accompany my wife. While that is mostly true, I have to admit I certainly wasn't adverse to going. I went willingly especially after hearing some of her more recent singles on the radio that were a little more on the rock side than the Top 40 side. So off we go to Birmingham (eating dinner at the same restaurant we dined at the evening I proposed). That might not seem so bad, but it gets worse (compared to the unwritten code of masculinity). After the concert was over, I have to admit I enjoyed it. It wasn't a typical teeny-bopper show even though the audience was mostly little girls and their parents. Kelly Clarkson has a real rock edge to her stuff. Maybe that's just to give Avril some competition, but who knows. Hopefully, I won't be swarmed by the masculinity police and forced to give away my "man card". Maybe I can get a few more points since Graham Colton Band opened up the show. But, once you've been on One Tree Hill, does that void the potential masculinity points?

Erika's latest review for War of the Worlds is Now Playing. Enjoy. And if you haven't already, check out reviews for The Longest Yard and Batman Begins.

Today seems to be a very interesting day for news stories. Apparently some people can't take a joke. The producers of Wedding Crashers have removed a link on their site to print out a fake "Purple Heart" medal on their site. Fake "Purple Hearts" are used in the movie to pick-up women and get free drinks, but the government is not amused with this promotion.

Smashing the face on the diving boardThis has to hurt. Chelsea Davis (left) smashes her face on a diving board during the swimming and diving World Championships. Lot's of blood, but no serious injuries.

And finally, Alabama is in the news again. Alabama lawmakers are trying to pass a law to castrate sexual predators. Not that I'm advocating or opposing such a law. It just brings the spotlight back on a state which doesn't need the attention. The last thing we need are toothless, backwoods rednecks talking about castration on the news.

What a weekend. As Erika went to Ohio for her dad's birthday, I spent the weekend in Tuscaloosa playing. Saturday, Evan came down and we hung out all day and night. We ended up playing tons of games including SSX Tricky, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Mario Party 4, darts, trivia, Magic, and a host of Genesis games over a span of 28 hours. We had a blast just being guys as we enjoyed some Dreamland ribs and Hooters wings during the gamefest.

I have to say that Hooters was a giant disappointment. Instead of pretty women in skimpy outfits we were treated to redneck girls that drifted over to the skanky side. This was of great relief to Erika and probably Evan's wife as well. Of course we got the third degree for even going there.

Because of all the action over the weekend, I didn't have a chance to put Erika's War of the Worlds review up. That should be posted tomorrow. I have finally generated a plan of attack to update the site so expect some new material over the next few weeks including some new game reviews and a tribute to M.U.S.C.L.E men.

The reviews keep rolling out. My wife has graciously accepted the task of helping me with movie reviews. This will allow me a little more time to play games, um, I mean work on other parts of the site. The rest of the site is dreadfully out of date. Her first review, The Longest Yard has been posted in Now Playing. It's a fine read and conveys my thoughts about the movie as well. She already has a review for War of the Worlds finished and I'll post that later this week, once everyone has had a chance to read her first one.

If you haven't noticed, Mr. Kelvington has a new link on the left. Visit his site, listen to his clips and click on his banner.

Nothing else going on in the land of humidity. Enjoy your week.

For anybody wondering, we made it through Hurricane Dennis. It really wasn't that bad, no worse than Ivan last September. Our roof leaked again and that has turned into a bigger pain in the butt than the actual hurricane. We didn't lose power until about 10 PM and it stayed off until 7 AM the next morning. Better to have it off over night than during the middle of the day. When I got up at 6 to see if the power was on, I found a 5-6' strip of our ceiling hanging down at the same spot we had a leak during Hurricane Ivan. Apparently the leak was back but luckily there wasn't a puddle on the floor, just some damp carpet.

To get the apartment management to come fix the problem has been a huge ordeal. Erika called yesterday morning as soon as the office opened and was told an outside contractor had to fix the roof. They had too many jobs to do yesterday so we were scheduled first thing this morning. After the guy fixed the roof, he left without fixing our ceiling which still was hanging down. I guess all they did was patch the roof so it wouldn't leak. After calling the office, the management (who had no idea the ceiling was falling down even after telling them numerous times) said they would send over the maintenance guy (who was out getting parts) when he returned. He didn't show up until 2 hours later, cut off the strip of ceiling hanging down and said they had to call someone to do sheetrock repair. Who knows when that will be.

As a result of all the rain, my new car popped a leak. Apparently the wiring job I did for my radio caused a small gap in the rubber molding that dripped a little. I had a pretty soggy floorboard the next morning. As of this morning, it had mostly dried without major damage.

On a side note, because of the hurricane, I didn't get to finish the poker tournament I started Sunday night. At the time I got disconnected I was about 130 out of 714. I had a major win going all in on a suited AK after a guy with a pair of Kings raised before the flop. I got an ace to win the pot on the turn. That was a great moment.

With a little over 2,000 chips, I had to quit because the power went out. When disconnected in a tournament, the server will post your blinds and fold every hand until you can log back in. Even not playing the rest of the tournament, I didn't lose my ranking of 130. Because of my unfortunate circumstances, UltimateBet has allowed me to play in the final tournament Sunday, this time only the strongest survives to go play for $200,000 in Hollywood. Might as well play, even if I have practically no chance to win.

My dreams of being a professional poker player haven't been shattered yet. Last night I played in a $5 tournament in hopes of getting a seat at a televised tournament in Hollywood next weekend. Out of 177 people, I finished 7th. The top 25 go on to the next round Sunday to play for a seat in Hollywood. I can't tell you how elated I am to do so well in my first tournament. I was skeptical that I would even come close making it to the next round. So, I'm ready for Sunday night, hoping my luck stays with me. I played pretty well, using instinct and a little luck to climb my way up the ranks. It's a wonderful rush when you win a huge pot knowing you've got the best hand.

This morning I added a review for Madagascar in Now Playing. Erika has expressed interest in writing the review for The Longest Yard. It should be posted soon as well as her trip review for Vegas.

I promised several weeks ago to share our Vegas pictures. However, Kodak Gallery is a stupid piece of crap. If you want to see the pictures, shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you the link. Apparently, only one person can use the link before it dies.

It's official. I am the owner of a new vehicle. It's actually slightly used, but new for all intents and purposes. I finally got the '05 Cavalier I mentioned a couple weeks ago. Last Wednesday, I took my car in and got the keys to the Cavalier. Yesterday, the dealership finally got the check from the bank and I have to go by today and pick up the paperwork. So far, it has been a good car. The a/c cools down very quickly and I can actually see the radio/clock display. I've now upgraded to a CD player, which means that Debbie Gibson and Pearl Jam have to stay at home.

I don't think I would ever recommend the dealership I got the car from. From day one it was a hassle, but the car was too good to pass up. Trying to get them to call back when I have a question is like trying to drink a triple thick chocolate shake with a coffee stirrer. No matter how hard I pulled, I never got what I wanted.

I'm planning on getting a review of Madagascar up tomorrow. Sometime in the near future, I will be removing the message boards and adding a new section in its place. The idea for a message board was good in theory, but it has never been utilized as I had anticipated. I thought it would be a good place for my friends and I to interact seeing as I live near none of them, but, it never took shape.

Over the next month, you may see some other additions as I expand. I'd like to get some actual virtual worlds started such as creating some type of Sims world and also trying the wrestling thing again. Will anybody read it? Maybe not, but it could be fun to do. It really depends on my time management. With World of Warcraft becoming an everyday occurrence, my new ideas may take a backseat.
