Happy Halloween! One of the most fun times of the year as it perfectly acceptable to be freaky. Not only can you enjoy autumnal weather, but you can be anything or anybody and be "normal".
Unbelievably, I've also hit the one year mark on the web site. Last year I watched
Mothman Prophecies and
Ghost Ship for Halloween. I posted my first two reviews shortly after that and introduced the world to my corner of the Internet. Now, I'd like to say that I remembered I was hitting the one year mark and revamped my web site because of that. However, I've been wanting a revamp for several months and finally made the time to do it. The fact that it falls near the anniversary of the site is purely coincidental.
Unfortunately, in order to get this done, I had to cut out some updates I had planned. I won't be posting reviews for the following movies as anticipated:
Alien vs. Predator,
The Village and
Wimbledon.
If you are interested,
AVP was pretty bad, but the ending made me want to see the sequel. Any fan of that particular universe wants to see the Alien/Predator hybrid that hatches at the end. (My apologies for spoiling an ending.)
The Village wasn't as creepy as I anticipated, but as always Shyamalan puts a nice twist in the movie, unfortunately it comes way to early.
Wimbledon was cute, but a little dry for a British comedy.
Enjoy the site. There is more to come this week including a new column in the Gameroom -- Weekly Rundown -- where I give a quick take on what I've played during the week. Expect a review of
fear dot com which we rented to watch this Halloween. Expect a nice revamp of the message boards as well when I get another block of time.
It's official. I'm an Alabamian. At long last I have transferred my title, received my license plates and driver's license and last but not least registered to vote. Unfortunately, I'm likely to have to do this again in 4 years in a different state. Oh joy!
I don't like to publicly discuss my religious beliefs nor politics, and I'm not going to do so here. However, I would like to address some of these political fanaticals. For some reason it really boggles me that so many people are following Bush because he is religious. It's not like Kerry's an atheist. Just because he is Catholic doesn't mean he isn't religious. I know some people would argue that, but seriously, is a Protestant God better than a Catholic God? Vote for the person that will lead the country regardless of religious beliefs.
Now that I've gotten that off my chest, this week has been so hectic. For the past weekend, I've spent most of my time working on a tribute to Erika's grandmother who's birthday would have been this past weekend. It didn't turn out like I wanted, but I really couldn't do much more with it. If you want to see it, visit
http://www.jasonwsmith.com/sophie. It's best if you use IE and have a high-end system and/or DSL or cable. There is music and lots of pictures so be patient while it loads.
If you didn't see the updates already, I added a review of
Bourne Identity and
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords. I'm looking to update more this weekend, but it may be tough since it is Homecoming. I'm also looking to add a new column to
The Gameroom called
Weekly Rundown in which I chronicle what I played during the week. Somebody out there might be interested. It will probably replace the virtual reality column that never gets updated.
I think I've finally done it. I've gotten into a groove after 4 weeks of being in Alabama. I'm starting to find time to do things and beginning to branch out into new territories. Starting this week, I will be dumping some time and money into the new Marvel card game (Vs) as well as starting to rouse interest in HeroClix. I'm still working on finding time and/or money to play Magic. Sportsclix seems to have taken an on-line form, but I still don't get to play it very much. Now if I can find time to do some reading, I'll be in good shape. I'm only a year behind in my computer magazines and 3-4 months behind on my comics.
Friday night, Erika and I went to see the Last Comic Standing tour in Birmingham. Rich Vos and Dave Mordal were the big names. Bonnie McFarlane was there as well, but she is about as funny as the billionth nut busting segment on America's Funniest Videos. She wasn't bad to look at, but her show was the same bit she's done on Last Comic Standing. *yawn* Vos interacted with the crowd a lot and acted as emcee for the night. He was hilarious, but I wish he had done an actual set. Dave was obviously tired, but still funny enough to keep the audience laughing. I left feeling entertained and thankful Bonnie was not the headliner that night. What a terrible show that would have been.
